No second series, but 2 hour special

The Truth about the follow on from series One of 'Queer As Folk'.

from Russel T Davies creator of QAF

A 2 hour special for January, then that's it - and it's going to be fucking fantastic, I promise you that! It's a long story mate - and Channel 4 would have done whatever we wanted, if I'd said 15 hrs, they'd have said yes, so it's not their fault. I tried writing the first 2 hrs of a 6 or 8 part series - and it just didn't work, it was becoming a bog-standard TV format. We could have trotted it out; a lot of people would have been happy; I wouldn't, though. So there were a lot of discussions Channel 4 and the marvellous Nicola saying, 'so how much do you want to do, 3 hrs, 4?' And I said, 2. Not because I'm tired, or bored of it. Only 2 hours will work. Thing is - if I do say so myself - there was such energy and originality in that first series, and that vitality has to be maintained. It has to stay fresh, it has to stay one step ahead of what everyone in bog-standard-telly would do. And this is the perfect solution. It was never a soap, it was a story. And every good story has an end. Which I'm now going to write. (And anyway, 2 hrs is almost 4 new eps, think of it that way!) I'm chucking out everything I've written so far, and starting again, cos now this decision's been made, I'm just bristling with ideas. Which is all the proof I need that I've made the right decision.
