Batman director Joel Schumacher is set to make a US version of British TV's controversial hit Queer As Folk for the cable network, Showtime.

Schumacher told the LA Times he would use a cast of unknowns and move the action from Manchester to New Jersey: "I'm going to do this pretty rough."

Creator Russell T Davies said the final episode of the British series - shown on C4 in February - would not make comfortable viewing. "Loads of people are going to hate the ending," he said.
